RALEIGH, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — More questions were asked than answers given as a panel of federal judges heard the latest arguments in a legal fight over the race for a North Carolina Supreme Court seat. The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals is being asked by attorneys for N.C. Justice Allison Riggs and the State Board of Elections to bring a challenge by Riggs’ opponent, Jefferson Griffin, back to federal court. MATTHEWS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Two pond dams – one of which nearly broke following heavy rains last year — will be the subject of studies, after funds for the initiative were approved by the Matthews Board of Commissioners Monday night. On Oct. 14, the town board approved funding for hydraulic and hydrologic (H&H) studies to be performed for the dams off Chipwood Lane. The studies, to be conducted by engineering firm WithersRavenel, are necessary to comply with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality. LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Next week, dozens of property owners who live in Lincoln County will become Catawba County residents. North Carolina officials are shifting the Lincoln-Catawba county line 500 feet to the south. Because of the shift, Lincoln County will lose about 386 parcels of land. According to a notice from the town of Tega Cay, United Blythe Joint Venture, the company building the new interchange, is switching the traffic pattern for Phase 2 of the project starting the night of Jan. 26.
