MATTHEWS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Two pond dams – one of which nearly broke following heavy rains last year — will be the subject of studies, after funds for the initiative were approved by the Matthews Board of Commissioners Monday night. On Oct. 14, the town board approved funding for hydraulic and hydrologic (H&H) studies to be performed for the dams off Chipwood Lane. The studies, to be conducted by engineering firm WithersRavenel, are necessary to comply with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality. LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Next week, dozens of property owners who live in Lincoln County will become Catawba County residents. North Carolina officials are shifting the Lincoln-Catawba county line 500 feet to the south. Because of the shift, Lincoln County will lose about 386 parcels of land. Some of them have homes or businesses on them, meaning Catawba will gain some of Lincoln County’s residents. “It’s beyond frustrating that this is all done behind closed doors with no notice,” said Karren Taillon. According to a notice from the town of Tega Cay, United Blythe Joint Venture, the company building the new interchange, is switching the traffic pattern for Phase 2 of the project starting the night of Jan. 26.
