ROCK HILL, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The superintendent for Rock Hill Schools is stepping down this week. Dr. Tommy Schmolze announced during Tuesday night’s school board meeting that he is retiring on Friday, Jan. 31. He has been with the district for over three years. Dr. Schmolze says he’s proud of what the school district has accomplished in the past three years Scmolze replaced former superintendent Bill Cook, who resigned just one week into the new school year.

MONROE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A 38-year-old man has been charged after a hit-and-run that left a man critically injured, according to the Monroe Police Department. On Tuesday, Jan. 28, officers arrested Lazaurus Cunningham and charged him with felony hit-and-run causing serious injury or death. The incident happened around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, in the 2200 block of W. Roosevelt Road. Police say a vehicle hit the man and fled the scene. NORTH CAROLINA (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles is looking to hire more employees in the name of reducing wait times for drivers. Queen City News confirmed with DMV officials Tuesday a Charlotte Observer report that the agency aims to hire 61 people, focusing on the Triangle and Charlotte areas. CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Four people are injured after a crash involving a bus in west Charlotte, according to Medic. Just before 7 a.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to the intersection of Little Rock Road and Tuckaseegee Road about a bus crash. Medic said four people were taken to local hospitals all with minor injuries. Few details have been released regarding the type of bus involved and where the bus was heading.
