HAZLE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Bucks County man has been found guilty, but mentally ill, of third-degree murder in Luzerne County. Joseph Sarmiento was charged back in June of 2021 after police said they found 38-year-old Helena Johnson dead in a Hazle Township motel room. Sheriff’s Department in Wilkes-Barre introduces Crisis Intervention Team Police say Johnson was hit, strangled, and found in the bathtub. Investigators found the only person to enter and exit that room was Sarmiento. The mentally ill charge will hold the same sentencing guidelines but will allow Sarmiento to receive mental health treatment during incarceration.
Eric Scott Andrews Obituary, Death; – The Des Moines Police Department is requesting the community’s assistance following a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the tragic death of 46-year-old Eric Scott Andrews late on Saturday night in the Highland Park neighborhood. Officers and the Des Moines Fire Department responded to the 900 block of Hull Avenue around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday after receiving reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. Michael Arietta Obituary, Death; – The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office has identified the individual who was fatally struck by a train on Monday evening as Michael Arietta, a 60-year-old resident of South Deerfield. Emergency personnel were notified of a report of a person struck by an Amtrak train near the Pleasant Street railroad crossing at 4:11 p.m., according to Deerfield Police Chief John Paciorek. The northbound train was traveling from Washington D.C. to St. Albans, Vermont. WEST WYOMING, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Crews were on the scene battling a blaze in West Wyoming Wednesday evening. Officials say the West Wyoming Fire Department was called to the 500 of West 8th Street for a reported structure fire at about 5:30 p.m. Driver dies after colliding with pick-up truck 28/22 News crews were there as authorities fought the house fire.
