NORTH CAROLINA (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A new online dashboard that tracks the western NC’s Hurricane Helene recovery shows that after 135 days since the devastating hurricane hit, more than 5,000 are still displaced in the state. The North Carolina State Auditor’s office announced the launch of the new dashboard on Tuesday. The tool breaks down how many households are currently displaced as well as those using FEMA shelter assistance or still in need of assistance by county. CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A person was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after multiple attempted traffic stops ended with the suspect being shot by an officer, according to Charlotte Mecklenburg Police. Around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, officers say they tried to pull a car over several times. The vehicle eventually pulled over at a gas station on South Boulevard near East Arrowood Road, and the suspect got out of the car. GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Amtrak reports that one of its passenger trains struck a vehicle on the tracks between Kings Mountain and Bessemer City. The incident happened just before 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, near Bessemer City-Kings Mountain Highway near Lewis Farm Road. GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man who was banned from owning dogs after he was charged with dogfighting in 2021 has been arrested again, Gaston County Police said. Authorities with Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement responded to a vacant lot along Queens Road in Gastonia on Jan. 28 after receiving several tips from concerned residents. The property owner, identified as Rico Pagan, was previously charged with animal cruelty and dogfighting in June 2021.
