In Westmoreland County, four people—two of whom were children—were killed in what investigators believed was a murder-suicide. The victims were discovered at a residence on Keck Lane in Hempfield on Friday morning, according to officials. Paul Swarner, 35; Karen Swarner, 32; Evelyn, 5; and Connor, 1 were the victims identified by state police, who were conducting the investigation in conjunction with the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office. On Friday, January 24, 2025, at approximately 8:25 p.m., officers responded to the 300 block of E. Vance Street in Laurinburg regarding a shooting incident. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive female lying in the front yard of a residence. Scotland County EMS pronounced the victim, identified as 17-year-old Jasmine Smith of 330 Roosevelt Street, Laurinburg, NC, deceased at the scene. A fatal shooting at the Summer Chase Trailer Park on Mance Newton Road has claimed the life of 31-year-old Harleigh Michelle Dills of Dothan. Dothan Police Lt. Scott Owens reported that officers responded to the scene shortly after 9:30 a.m. on January 24, 2025, following a report of a firearm assault.
