WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — DC Fire and EMS (DCFD) said an American Airlines aircraft crashed into the Potomac River Wednesday night. In a joint statement from DCFD and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), officials said that multiple calls came in for an aircraft crash above the Potomac River near Reagan National Airport (DCA) just after 8:50 p.m. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said that preliminarily, investigators believe that a regional jet with American Airlines that was approaching DCA’s runways collided with a helicopter. MONROE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The owner of a now-closed Union County wedding venue has been charged with multiple felonies after being accused of defrauding couples and investors alike. According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, there were multiple reports of fraud in December 2024 involving Champagne Manor, a venue in the northern part of the county, and its owner Jason Lottmann. After his arrest Tuesday, is being held on a $1 million bond. The sheriff’s office says investigators determined that couples paid between $40,000 and $50,000 for full-service wedding packages, believing their payments covered the venue, catering and other…

GASTONIA, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A teenage suspect, charged with murder and attempted murder related with a Sunday night shooting, collapsed in a Gaston County court room Wednesday upon being told he would not be granted bail. Sean Simpson faces first-degree murder charges in the death of 16-year-old Zaquavious Dawkins. Simpson also faces an attempted first-degree murder charge. Family of slain Gastonia 16-year-old speaks out after police arrest, charge teen suspect Prosecutors said Dawkins and the other victim were each walking along South Chester Street when Simpson reportedly opened fire. CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Authorities are investigating an alleged armed robbery of a Brinks armored truck Wednesday afternoon in south Charlotte. Around 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29, Queen City News responded to a tip about a Brinks truck robbery at the intersection of Rea Road and Audrey Kell Road. QCN observed police activity around a Brinks truck in the parking lot of a Truist Bank in Blakeney. QCN reached out to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and the Charlotte FBI for further information who confirmed an investigation was underway but would not give any more details.
