NORTH CAROLINA (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Thousands of federal workers are losing their jobs as part of the Trump administration’s efforts to cut federal spending. The U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service are set to fire a combined 4,400 workers who are still within their probationary period, or within their first one or two years on the job. The layoffs which have sparked concerns about wildlife protection efforts across the country, have left some state agencies in limbo about potential impacts. MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Gastonia man has been arrested in connection to a woman found dead in a Mount Holly home Sunday. According to the Gaston County Police Department, officers conducted a welfare check at 3:30 p.m. at a residence on Mistywood Drive, off of Kelly Road. Upon arrival, they discovered an unresponsive individual, later identified as 28-year-old Carly Bentley, who was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the police department, officers responded to 1023 Morganton Blvd on Tuesday, Jan. 21 after being alerted of remains found in a wooded area behind the property.
