Peel police are investigating the death of a man who took his own life on Thursday, January 8, 2025, in Mississauga, Ontario. The incident prompted significant road closures in the area of Cawthra Road and Dundas Street East. Two people are dead, and a suspect is in custody following a shooting in Armstrong County Wednesday morning. According to a criminal complaint, Kittanning police were called to the scene along the 100 block of Shaffer Lane in Washington Township around 2:40 a.m. for reports of a shooting that resulted in two casualties. Upon conducting an investigation, officials learned the shooter and the two victims, aged 27 and 32, were at Ruby’s Den Burger & Spirits Bar and Grill before the shooting occurred, the complaint said. Watauga County Schools says they will not have school on Jan. 9 due to decreasing temperatures, areas of snow and ice-covered roads in the district. There is not remote learning. OLIN, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — An Iredell County rest stop will likely be closed for more than 24 hours due to a water leak. According to the N.C. Department of Transportation, the affected facility is in the median of Interstate 77 at mile marker 58, north of Statesville. The closure began at noon Wednesday and is expected to last until 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9. There’s not another rest stop heading southbound on I-77 until drivers reach South Carolina.
