FORT MILL, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — After 45 years of serving the Fort Mill School District, Superintendent Dr. James “Chuck” Epps announced his retirement Tuesday night. The announcement came at the start of a school board meeting where Dr. Epps shared a letter detailing his over 49 years total in public education. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Longtime Charlotte radio DJ, David “Ace” Cannon has died, his sister wrote on sister wrote on social media Tuesday night.  “Please keep my family in your prayers as my brother, David Ace Cannon passed away today,” Piper Wilson wrote.  “The Ace & TJ Show” was on Charlotte airwaves from 1998 until last fall. The syndicated morning show was broadcast on 95.1, 96.1 and most recently 104.7. (AP) — An appeals court agreed Tuesday that a federal trial judge acted properly last month in declining to rule on the eligibility of tens of thousands of voters last fall in an unresolved North Carolina Supreme Court election and return it to state court. A memorial has grown on the car of Ian Epstein, one of the American Airlines flight crew that was killed when Flight 5342 crashed into a military helicopter Wednesday night in the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. BOONE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Legends, a social event space that was often considered a nightclub on Appalachian State University’s campus, is set to be demolished following damage due to Helene. CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Last week’s fatal mid-air crash over the Potomac River has prompted a lot of finger-pointing.  The cause of the deadly collision of an American Airlines jet and a U.S. Army helicopter near Reagan National Airport is still unknown. A preliminary report as to what happened is expected within 30 days, with a final report as to why the accident happened could take over a year. CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Tuesday brought a summer feel to the Carolinas, with record-breaking high temperatures.  Charlotte was able to rise to 80 degrees on Tuesday, which shattered the previous record of 76 degrees that was set back in 1926.  This is also the second earliest day in history that Charlotte has hit 80 degrees. We did not quite beat the monthly record, as Charlotte has hit 82 degrees in the month of February in 2011 and 2018.
