RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A massive presence of protestors is growing in downtown Raleigh as crowds across the country gather Wednesday afternoon. The gathering is part of a movement to oppose the early actions of President Donald Trump’s administration is taking off online, with plans to protest across the U.S. on Wednesday. The movement was organized under the hashtags #buildtheresistance and #50501, which stands for 50 protests, 50 states, one day. GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Law enforcement officials are investigating along a Gaston County highway after remains were discovered early Wednesday morning. Gaston County Communications confirms the call came in just after 8:30 a.m. for reports of remains along US 321 near Hardin Road, just outside Dallas. According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, 62-year-old Melvin Smith, Jr. was a passenger in a vehicle that left the roadway and collided with a tree. The crash occurred around 10:45 p.m. on Alabama River Parkway, about two miles east of Prattville. The driver, a 23-year-old woman from Millbrook, sustained injuries and was transported to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for treatment. Emergency responders pronounced Smith deceased at the scene. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
