MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Kaleab Berhanu, 21, of Baltimore, has been sentenced to two consecutive life sentences plus 20 years for the murder of 20-year-old Carlos Rashard Carter in Silver Spring on Easter Sunday in 2023. On Friday, September 20, a judge handed down the sentence for Berhanu, who was convicted of breaking into Carter’s home in the 11800 block of Old Columbia Pike during the early morning of April 9, 2023, and fatally shooting him while he slept. BALTIMORE, MD — A 24-year-old man was fatally shot early Saturday morning in the 1100 block of Marshall Street, according to police. At approximately 1:47 a.m. on September 21, officers on foot patrol heard gunfire and quickly located the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced deceased. Homicide detectives are investigating the incident. WASHINGTON, D.C. — Two people were hospitalized after a shooting in Southeast D.C. early Monday morning, police confirmed.
