WASHINGTON, D.C. — A fatal shooting occurred early Friday in Northwest Washington, claiming the life of a 23-year-old woman. At approximately 12:17 a.m., officers patrolling the 700 block of Florida Avenue, Northwest, heard gunfire. Upon arriving at the scene, police found evidence of a shooting, though no victim was present. AVON LAKE, OH — A lucky lottery player in Avon Lake has won $10,000 after playing the Ohio Lottery’s 50th Anniversary scratch-off game. The winning ticket was purchased at Avon Lake Shell on Lake Road. After mandatory state and federal taxes of 28 percent, the winner will take home approximately $7,200. The 50th Anniversary scratch-off, priced at $50, offers a top prize of $600,000 per year for 25 years. As of August 23, two top prizes remain available in the game.

BALTIMORE, MD — A man is in critical condition after being shot late Wednesday night on Yale Avenue in the Southwestern District. Officers arrived on the scene around 11:28 p.m. and found the unidentified victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, homicide detectives have taken over the investigation. Eastern District patrol officers responded to a Shot Spotter alert around 12:21 a.m. and found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. BALTIMORE, MD — A man has been arrested in connection with the death of 38-year-old Sierra Johnson, who was found deceased in her home on Abbott Court on July 14. Officers responded to the scene early that morning, discovering Johnson with fatal head trauma. After canvassing the area, police apprehended 36-year-old Bryan Cherry nearby on Homewood Avenue. Detectives believe Cherry physically assaulted Johnson, leading to her death. He has been charged with first-degree murder and additional offenses and is currently held at the Central Booking Intake Facility.
