CUMBERLAND, MD – Early Saturday morning, Cumberland Police responded to a disturbance at a business on South George Street.
At around 3:17 a.m., officers were called to the scene where an employee reported that Shauwn Kirby Layton, a 53-year-old local resident, was causing a disturbance and refusing to leave the premises. Layton was uncooperative and assaulted officers when asked to vacate the area, leading to his arrest.
Following his arrest, Layton was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. He was later identified through further investigation, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant. Layton faced a District Court Commissioner and is currently held on a $5,000 bond.
Shauwn Kirby Layton is charged with second-degree assault, two counts of trespassing, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest, and obstructing and hindering.
