QUEENS, NY — Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced the indictment of Judd Sanson, a 27-year-old resident of Hollis, following a traffic stop that led to the discovery of an array of weapons and illegal paraphernalia in his vehicle. The incident occurred near LaGuardia Airport in East Elmhurst, raising significant security concerns given the proximity to critical infrastructure.
Sanson was pulled over on June 12 for driving with a covered license plate. The subsequent search of his vehicle by NYPD officers unveiled a startling collection of weapons, including a loaded Glock 9mm pistol, multiple high-capacity magazines, 127 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and various other weapons such as knives, a baton, and a stun gun. Additionally, police found body armor with an NYPD patch and an MTA vest, which underscore potential impersonation or other criminal intentions.
The 20-count indictment includes charges of criminal possession of a weapon in the second, third, and fourth degrees, unlawful possession of pistol ammunition, and unlawful use of a police uniform or emblem. Sanson also faces charges related to the obscured license plates on his vehicle.
Sanson, who was arraigned today by Supreme Court Judge Edwin Novillo, faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. He is scheduled to return to court on July 22. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Dylan Nesturrick of the District Attorney’s Career Criminal Major Crime Bureau, with the investigation continuing in collaboration with the NYPD.
This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of the Queens District Attorney’s Office and local law enforcement to combat illegal weapon possession and ensure public safety, particularly in areas of critical transportation infrastructure.
