Trenton, NJ – Local political figures have expressed their concern and condemnation following a failed assassination attempt on former President Donald J. Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania.
Senator Cory Booker took to Twitter, stating, “Political violence is never acceptable. My prayers are with former President Trump as he recovers from any injuries.”
Governor Phil Murphy reposted a message from Lt. Governor Tahesha Way, who said, “Horrified by the news from former President Trump’s rally. Violence has no place in politics. Saying prayers for all. God bless America.” Murphy also added, “Please pray for President Trump, everyone at the rally, and our country. God Bless America.”
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez shared her thoughts an hour ago, emphasizing, “There is no place for political violence, including the horrific incident we just witnessed in Pennsylvania. It is absolutely unacceptable and must be denounced in the strongest terms. My heart goes out to all the victims and I wish the former President a speedy recovery.”
Representative Andy Kim commented on the situation, noting, “A lot that we don’t know about what’s unfolding in Pennsylvania but violence has no place in our country or politics. We have major divisions in our country but we cannot resort to attacks. I hope former President Trump and those attending the rally are safe.”
New York City Mayor Eric Adams described the events as horrific and extended his prayers to Trump and all attendees of the rally. He also mentioned that the NYPD is increasing officer presence across the five boroughs as a precaution.
Senator Bob Menendez also tweeted, “My thoughts and prayers are with former President Trump and everyone affected at his rally today. I am glad he is safe. Our democracy has no tolerance for political violence.”
Jack Ciattarelli, a former gubernatorial candidate, urged all Americans to stand united against the violence, saying, “Praying for President Trump, his family, and our country. All Americans – I don’t care what party you are – should stand together and speak out against this senseless act of violence. All those responsible should be held accountable to the full extent of the law. We are better than this.”
Political commentator Bill Spadea expressed solidarity and determination, stating, “Jodi and I are praying for President Trump and all at the rally. We need to save our Republic by protecting President Trump, his family and all his supporters. 2024 is a must win. Keep the faith and the fight.”
