Heather Gray Obituary, Cause of Death; Heather Gray Dies and Toby Gray from Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound in Clay County
The Nebraska State Patrol has released additional details regarding a tragic homicide investigation in Clay County, Nebraska, where a domestic disturbance resulted in the fatal shooting of a woman and a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the suspect.
According to authorities, at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance at a residence located at 1640 Road 322, in rural Harvard.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered a harrowing scene—35-year-old Heather Gray had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, 39-year-old Toby Gray, was also found in the home suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Investigators believe that Toby Gray shot Heather Gray before turning the gun on himself in an attempted murder-suicide. The couple’s three young children were inside the home at the time of the shooting but were unharmed.
Law enforcement quickly secured the scene and ensured the children were safe before they were taken into protective custody and placed with family members. Further examination of court records reveals that Heather Gray had filed for divorce just days prior, on Thursday, February 20.
While the exact reasons behind the divorce filing remain undisclosed, this new development sheds light on possible tensions within the marriage leading up to the tragic incident.
Additionally, reports indicate that Toby Gray was already facing separate charges related to an alleged assault in Clay County, involving other individuals. These charges raise further concerns about his history of violent behavior.
Emergency responders transported Toby Gray to Aurora Memorial Hospital for immediate medical attention before he was airlifted to Bryan Health West Campus in Lincoln.
As of now, he remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Due to the severity of the incident, Nebraska State Patrol troopers have been assigned to maintain custody of Gray at the hospital while the investigation continues.
