(WBRE/WYOU)— Avian flu reports have slowed in the past few weeks, but the game commission is still responding to the occasional call of a dead bird being found in NEPA.
The Game Commission says even with the lower numbers of the avian flu being reported, they’re unsure of what the near future holds because snow geese are still in the middle of their mass migration to this area.
When the flu hit in January, it affected wildlife first then agricultural flocks.
The game commission asks people to be careful when encountering wildlife.
“Reduce the human assisted spread of avian flu. Folks should always be viewing wildlife at a safe distance, doing everything they can to avoid wildlife feces, and to never handle sick or dead birds, to call us instead,” explained Travis Lau, Communications Director, PA Game Commission.
Avian flu can be passed on to humans, so if you see dead birds, contact the Game Commission so they can investigate and clean the area.
