The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a collision involving a Conway police officer and a driver from Madison that took place Thursday morning.
At around 9:30 a.m., sheriff’s deputies Ugo Pinardi and Anthony Rowe responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a Conway police cruiser in the town of Conway.
The crash occurred on Route 16 near the Hitching Post Motel.
According to investigators, Officer Cameron Leavitt was stationed on the southbound side of Route 16, conducting stationary radar enforcement, when he observed a northbound vehicle traveling at a high speed. Leavitt activated his blue lights and attempted to pull out.
At the same time, Ameyla Ingram, 28, of Madison, was driving southbound. Leavitt believed Ingram was slowing down to allow him to initiate the stop, but she continued driving. As Leavitt pulled out, the two vehicles collided, resulting in damage to the driver’s side of the police cruiser and the front of Ingram’s car.
Both Leavitt and Ingram were transported to MaineHealth Memorial Hospital in North Conway for evaluation.
Police Chief Chris Mattei stated that while the cruiser is insured, it is unclear whether it can be repaired.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Deputy Pinardi at the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office at (603) 539-2284.
