On Saturday, a devastating accident occurred when a 56-year-old man from Martin was driving west on Baseline Road near Hillsdale Drive at a high rate of speed. The vehicle crossed the centerline, veered off the road, and struck a family standing near Baseline Lake — parents Matthew and Rebecca, along with their infant daughter Lucia.
In a touching statement, the Seifrieds shared, “On Saturday, my family and I were sitting in our yard watching the sun set. One minute our baby girl was playing in the grass, the next minute she was holding Jesus’s hand.” Their words convey the suddenness of the tragedy and the deep sorrow they feel, but also express their faith and hope. They added, “Lucia was so full of joy, love and peace. Our hope and prayer is that through her death and story, so many lives will be saved and turn to Christ.”
The sheriff’s office confirmed that both Lucia and the 56-year-old driver were transported to the hospital following the crash. Tragically, Lucia succumbed to her injuries later. The Seifrieds expressed their gratitude for the first responders who came to Lucia’s aid, describing themselves as overwhelmed by the love, support, and prayers from the community.
In honor of Lucia’s life, the family has scheduled a visitation on May 9 at Frederick Funeral Home in Cincinnati, Ohio, from 5 to 8 p.m. They also plan to hold a Mass of Christian Burial at Mary Queen of Heaven Church in Erlanger, Kentucky, on May 10 at 10:30 a.m. Following the service, Lucia will be laid to rest at Mother of God Cemetery in Ft. Wright, Kentucky.
The driver involved in the crash was arrested at the scene and remains in custody as of Tuesday. He is scheduled to be arraigned on three felony charges this Wednesday, according to authorities.
