TANNERSVILLE, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — From sleet to freezing rain and snow, our region has seen its fair share of weather this winter season.
It’s a wintry haze of snow at Camelback Resort in Tannersville on Tuesday morning.
“We have been making snow the last week and we continue to make it until we see the temps start to rise, so it’s going to be a long stretch for us which we’re excited for.”
Senior Events Manager Lauren Brands says they’ve been thankful for the bitter cold this winter season. But have also dealt with a mix of conditions like sleet and freezing rain on the slopes.
“When you have those ice storms like there are tree limbs that come down, things like that, and those are things that need to be cleared out of the trails before we open for the day or for the groomers.”
Strong winds can also cause a problem for operations.
“At times, it can be an issue a little bit for our ski lifts, but we always manage that accordingly and it’s usually only a little time before it’s back up and running again but we always prioritize the safety of our guests.”
It’s sixty years of expertise that get them through rougher conditions. With dedicated groomers and crews working around the clock having the technology to see the snow’s depth and where they need to prioritize.
“Our ski patrol takes it very seriously getting out on the mountain making sure that conditions are what they need to be.”
As long as Mother Nature cooperates brands say they hope to have skiers and snowboarders on the slopes through March.
