Alexander Andre Mathis Obituary, Death; – The Clark County Coroner has confirmed the identity of the individual involved in a shootout that resulted in the death of a North Las Vegas police officer.
The individual has been named as 25-year-old Alexander Andre Mathis. The officer, along with other members of the North Las Vegas police, responded to the vicinity of Camino Al Norte and Lone Mountain Road at approximately 2:13 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers attempted to engage with the armed suspect, who disregarded their commands and fled the scene. The suspect was subsequently located again while still armed.
When the suspect failed to comply with orders to display his hands, he advanced towards the officers, prompting them to discharge their weapons. During the exchange of gunfire, police report that Jason Roscow was struck multiple times but was able to return fire, injuring the suspect.
Both the officer and Mathis were promptly transported to UMC, where they succumbed to their injuries. This incident marks the first reported death of a police officer in North Las Vegas since 2017, when Detective Chad William Parque died in a vehicle accident, and since 1995, when Officer Paul Raul Elizondo was fatally shot by a suspect who seized his firearm.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is currently underway.
