POLK COUNTY, Texas (KETK) — A man accused of stabbing his girlfriend and then covering her body with tree branches in nearby woods was sentenced on Jan. 13.
The Polk County District Attorney’s office said they began to prepare for DeAndre Shermail Wright’s trial, who is accused of killing Jasmine Muldoon. The State and the defendant could not reach a sentencing deal.
However, after a conversation with family members and considering the emotional impact to the family of a trial, the State agreed to a 50 year confinement to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in exchange for a guilty plea.
KETK obtained Wright’s affidavit, that stated the investigation began after Muldoon was reported missing on May 5, 2024. Wright’s mother then reported to officials that her son and his girlfriend got into an argument that made her fear for Muldoon’s safety.
During a search of the home, officials found blood in the master bedroom and on May 6, 2024 they located Muldoon’s body in the woods wrapped in a bedsheet and covered by tree limbs. The District Attorney’s office said Muldoon died from a stab wound and left four children behind.
“The District Attorney’s office and the family of Ms. Muldoon want to express that domestic violence in a relationship is never ‘ok or acceptable behavior,'” the Polk County District Attorney’s Office said. “If you are in a situation of domestic violence, please reach out to your local law enforcement agencies for guidance on how to seek assistance.”
