CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man pleads guilty to a fatal shooting in west Charlotte from almost five years ago, court records show.
On April 7, 2020, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to a call regarding a gunshot wound victim near the intersection of Willilyn Lane and Huntwood Drive around 7:30 a.m.

Officers found the victim, Joshua Leland Cox, 41, dead at the scene.
CMPD later arrested Robert Ward Alverson on April 14.
On January 23, 2025, Alverson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder without regard and was sentenced to a minimum of 125 months to 162 months in prison. Alverson was granted a 1,745-day credit for his days spent in confinement before judgment day.
