CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Charlotte driver who authorities said drove down the wrong side of the road, colliding head-on with two vehicles, killing one woman will face charges.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, officers responded around 9:20 p.m. Jan. 11 to a crash in the 7700 block of East W.T. Harris Boulevard, near Hickory Grove Baptist Church. They discovered a silver Honda, a white Dodge Ram pickup truck, a white Chevrolet S10 with extensive damage to the front and a Kia with minor front-end damage.
The preliminary investigation indicates a Chevrolet S10 pickup driven was driving on the wrong side of the road on East W.T. Harris. It collided head on with the Honda and the Ram truck. The Kia then struck the trailer hitch of the Ram.
The driver of the Honda, 40-year-old Yaneth Del Carmen Guevara, and the driver of the Chevrolet, Felix Davila, 68, suffered serious injuries. Medic transported seven individuals to area hospitals for treatment. Guevara was pronounced deceased after arriving at the hospital.
When Davila is released from the hospital, CMPD says he will be charged with felony death by vehicle and four counts of felony serious injuries by vehicle.
Officers say excessive speed and impairment are suspected to be contributing factors for this crash.
