CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — When it comes down to the Carolinas, wintry weather is all about expectation vs. reality.
The expectation is always for a winter wonderland, but we usually get the dreaded sleet and freezing rain, which cuts down on snow totals a bit.
Snow totals were higher up towards the mountains and foothills. Along the north of the I-40 corridor, snow totals ranged anywhere between 1-3 inches of snowfall.
However, further south snow towards the Charlotte metro region snow totals were lower due to more of a wintry mix last evening. Snow totals around Charlotte and areas south were more between a trace to 1 inch.
Ice accumulations were pretty significant in some areas. Spots like Rock Hill, Indian Trail, Concord, and Crowders Mountain received over 2 tenths of an inch of ice.
Charlotte received at least a tenth of an inch of ice. More reports may come in as the morning goes on.
