(PINPOINT WEATHER) — First off, with 0.4 inches of snow reported at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, the snow drought is officially over! It lasted 1,077 days, with the last measurable snow at Charlotte back on Jan. 29, 2022.
While areas in the mountains and foothills have been seeing mostly snow with some sleet tonight, much of the rest of the region is getting freezing rain. This is not good — it’s created icy roads and led to many accidents around the region. Take it slow on the roads and allow extra following distance if you must head out through Saturday morning. Temperatures will remain below freezing.

First snowfall since Jan. 2022
The snowy and icy weather will move out quickly, however, ending by sunrise Saturday. The exception is in the mountains, where snow showers will linger longer into Saturday. Even though sunshine returns for both Saturday and Sunday afternoons, high temps will only reach the low- and mid-40s. This will lead to some melting, but whatever moisture doesn’t evaporate will freeze again overnight.
Black ice will continue to be an issue in the mornings going into next week. Be careful out there!
Next week is another unseasonably cold one. We’ll see lots of sun, though!
Tonight: Areas of snow north; lingering freezing rain. Low 27.
Saturday: Partly cloudy. High 43.
Sunday: Partly cloudy. 20/42.
