NORTH CAROLINA (PINPOINT WEATHER ALERT) — We continue to track a significant winter storm on the way for the Carolinas from Friday afternoon through Saturday.
Sunshine is again expected Thursday afternoon with highs around the 40-degree mark.
The timing for the storm Friday has moved up slightly with wintry weather now expected to move in around lunchtime and last until roughly sunrise on Saturday.
It should start as snow in Charlotte before at some point changing to sleet and freezing rain. There is still some uncertainty when it comes to exactly how much snow we will see here in Charlotte. All snow is expected farther northwest with up to 6 inches possible in the mountains.
In the sandhills minor icing is possible before eventually changing to rain. In and around Charlotte up to a quarter inch of ice is possible.
