Lucien Jean Osun, 62, of Wyandanch, Tragically Killed in Car-Train Collision Near Pinelawn Station on Long Island
Lucien Jean Osun, a 62-year-old resident of Wyandanch, New York, was fatally struck by a Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train on the evening of Thursday, April 17, 2025. The incident occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. near the Pinelawn Station, located in East Farmingdale, along the Ronkonkoma Branch of the LIRR. Authorities have confirmed that at the time of the crash, the railroad crossing gates were down, and the warning lights were flashing, indicating an active train crossing.
Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the collision, including the possibility that Mr. Osun’s vehicle was stationary on the tracks when it was struck by the train. The force of the impact caused significant damage to both the vehicle and the train, leading to extensive delays in LIRR service along the affected route.
Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene; however, Mr. Osun was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter. No injuries to passengers or crew members aboard the train were reported.
The tragic event has prompted a renewed focus on railroad crossing safety. The Federal Railroad Administration estimates that trains can take more than a mile to come to a complete stop after emergency brakes are applied, making collisions at crossings particularly hazardous. Authorities are urging the public to exercise extreme caution at all railroad crossings, regardless of familiarity with the area.
Lucien Jean Osun is remembered by those who knew him as a kind and hardworking individual. His untimely passing has left his family and the Wyandanch community in mourning, as they await further information from investigators to understand the circumstances that led to this devastating accident.
Authorities are requesting anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
