LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville firefighters responded Friday morning to a three-story building fire at a senior living community in Crescent Hill.
The Louisville Fire Department said firefighters responded just before 11 a.m. to Masonic Homes Louisville, where a vacant three-story building was on fire with flames reaching through the roof.
Louisville Fire Capt. Donovan Sims said it took about 60 firefighters nearly an hour to bring it under control. He said the building off Frankfort Avenue was empty because it was under renovation.
The building next door, which was occupied, was evacuated as a precaution.
“About a dozen or so residents were home at the time, and we knocked on the door. We helped usher them to a safe building nearby, and it was a quick response,” said Nicole Candler with Masonic Homes of Louisville. “… There was no danger of it spreading to another building. We did evacuate the building next door, where residents do live, just because we didn’t want them to have to deal with the smoke exposure.”
No one was hurt in the fire.
