Gerald Patriquin,Margaret Patriquin Obituary, Death; – Authorities have confirmed the identities of the two residents from Gardner who lost their lives in a multi-vehicle accident in New Salem last week.
Gerald Patriquin, aged 89, and Margaret Patriquin, aged 74, were declared deceased at the scene of the incident, which took place on the Daniel Shays Highway (Rte. 202) shortly before 2 p.m. on Friday, December 6, as reported by Laurie Loisel, the director of communication and community engagement at the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.
The Patriquins were the sole occupants of a truck that was one of three vehicles involved in the collision, according to Loisel. All other individuals injured in the incident survived.
Among the vehicles involved was a commercial dump truck, officials stated. A 45-year-old man from Chicopee, who was driving one of the other vehicles, was airlifted to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for treatment. The driver of the third vehicle, a 35-year-old man from Orange, received care at Athol Memorial Hospital.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, being conducted by state police detectives assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, along with troopers from the Crime Scene Services Section, the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, as noted by Loisel.
Rte. 202 was closed to traffic for several hours before it was reopened shortly after 8 p.m., according to officials. Loisel indicated that no charges are anticipated to be filed in relation to the accident.
