The accident took place around 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, when officers arrived at the scene on US 64 at Fisher Davis Road.
According to the highway patrol, a 2005 Chrysler 300 was traveling south on Fisher Davis Road when the driver made a left turn from a stop sign onto US 64, resulting in a collision with a westbound 1975 Ford dump truck. The driver of the Chrysler, identified as 64-year-old Danny Lee Scott, was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, who was a passenger in the vehicle, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
The dump truck was operated by a 59-year-old man, who was also taken to a local hospital but with only minor injuries. Investigators have indicated that they do not believe impairment or speed were factors in the crash, and no charges are expected to be filed, according to the highway patrol. The roadway was closed for approximately two hours while the investigation was conducted on-site.
