Baltimore, Md. – A lucky mom from Harford County is celebrating after winning $60,000 with a spin on The Big Spin Wheel at the Maryland Lottery headquarters.
The anonymous player, who adopted the alias “Smiley,” became the seventh participant to try her luck at the wheel on Friday. “I was excited and nervous but I feel very blessed,” she said as she prepared to spin. Smiley previously found several scratch-offs featuring the digital spin symbol. With this $5 game, players can win up to $50,000 instantly or earn a digital spin that can lead to cash prizes of $10 to $250, or a trip to the Lottery headquarters for a chance to win between $50,000 and $250,000 on The Big Spin Wheel.
After scanning her instant tickets, Smiley won $50 twice before her third digital spin symbol led to an exciting surprise. The scanner read, “Go to Lottery!” She held onto the scratch-off for two weeks before claiming her prize, knowing she was the seventh winner to spin the wheel.
Before her appointment, Smiley watched Maryland Lottery YouTube videos of previous winners and was thrilled to meet Mike Powell, the host of The Big Spin videos. Amid cheers from Lottery employees, she spun the wheel and landed on $60,000. “I was trying to get a good grip on it before I spun,” she recalled with a smile.
Smiley plans to use her winnings to pay off her car loan and has a special surprise for her children this Christmas.
Carroll Mart, located at 2906 Churchville Road in Harford County, also benefits from her win, receiving a $600 Lottery bonus for selling the scratch-off that led Smiley to the Lottery headquarters.
The Big Spin game, which began on April 22, features eight prizes on The Big Spin Wheel, with one scratch-off experience remaining. There is still one $50,000 instant prize available along with thousands of additional instant-win prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000, as well as numerous digital spin prizes available.
