A 23-year-old man from Bridgeton has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of U.S. Navy veteran Allen Miller Jr. in Salem County last month. Authorities say Christopher Poore was driving east on Route 40 near milepost 20.5 in Pittsgrove around 3 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, when he struck Miller and fled the scene.
Miller, 45, of Vineland, was tragically killed as a result of the crash. According to his obituary, Miller was a proud 1998 graduate of Schalick High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the War in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2005. At the time of his death, he was working as a delivery driver for Carl Harz Furniture in Elmer.
After an investigation, New Jersey State Police identified Poore as the driver and arrested him at his home on October 2. He faces charges of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death and Tampering with Evidence. Poore has been released pending an upcoming court date.
This tragic incident has left the Salem County community mourning the loss of a veteran, father, and friend. Further details on the case will unfold as it heads to court.
