PHILADELPHIA — Police in Pennsylvania have arrested an Uber driver accused of following a college student into her on-campus dorm room and raping her after dropping her off, authorities said Friday.
The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Mirvan Dinler, was taken into custody in connection with the alleged assault, which occurred on the night of September 13, 2024, according to a report by WPVI, the local ABC affiliate.
The incident unfolded after the victim, a Villanova University student, began feeling ill while out with friends in Philadelphia for a birthday party. She decided to leave early, and her friends reportedly waited with her until an Uber, driven by Dinler, arrived around 10:19 p.m.
Dinler allegedly drove the student back to her dorm, arriving at the university around 11:08 p.m., according to police. After dropping her off, he is accused of following her into her dorm room, where he allegedly raped her and forced her to perform oral sex.
After leaving, Dinler allegedly returned to demand money from the victim, claiming she had made a mess in his car. The victim reportedly handed over her phone, which Dinler used to send himself $150 via Venmo before leaving, WPVI reported.
The student reported the assault to university officials the following week. Villanova University has since banned Dinler from its property while the investigation is ongoing.
Police continue to investigate the incident, and no further details have been released.
