CUMBERLAND, Md. — A man was arrested Friday following a domestic disturbance that resulted in a reported assault, according to the Cumberland Police Department.
Officers responded to a residence on Holland Street on October 4 after receiving a call regarding an altercation. Upon arrival, police made contact with two individuals involved in the incident.
According to the investigation, the suspect, identified as Mr. Benson, allegedly prevented the victim from leaving the residence and struck her in the head with a closed fist. Officers noted swelling and bleeding around the victim’s eye and ear.
The victim told police that Benson then pushed her to the ground and began strangling her with both hands before using his forearm and elbow to apply a headlock. She was able to escape by biting Benson, a claim police corroborated after observing a bite mark on him.
Benson was arrested and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center.
