MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A New Jersey man wanted for multiple sex crimes against a child was arrested in Memphis on Tuesday, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
Siamel Alberto Perez was wanted in connection with an aggravated sexual assault case involving a child in New Jersey. A warrant for his arrest was issued on Sept. 23 by Linden City Municipal Court in Union County, New Jersey. Charges against Perez include aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.
U.S. Marshals in New Jersey launched a search and discovered information suggesting Perez was traveling south, possibly hiding in the Memphis area. They requested assistance from the Marshals’ Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force in Memphis.
On Tuesday, law enforcement officers, including Deputy Marshals and Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies, located a vehicle with New Jersey license plates at the Sleep Inn Suites near American Way and Perkins Road. Authorities said Perez was seen leaving the hotel and walking toward the car when he was arrested without incident.
Perez is currently being held at 201 Poplar Avenue Jail in Memphis while awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
