GAITHERSBURG, Md. — The Montgomery County Department of Police is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that claimed the life of a 53-year-old man on Monday evening, officials confirmed Wednesday.
The victim, identified as Dominique Mwepu, was struck by a blue Honda Prelude at approximately 7:55 p.m. on September 30 at the intersection of Frederick Road and High Point Drive. Mwepu sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement from the police.
Officers from the 5th District and Fire Rescue personnel responded to the incident shortly after it was reported. The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is leading the investigation, and no additional details about the cause of the crash have been released.
