MANHATTAN, N.Y. — A 1976 shooting incident has been reclassified as a homicide following the death of the victim nearly 47 years later, according to police.
The incident took place on Thursday, January 15, 1976, at approximately 6:40 a.m., when Paul Dawkins, 30 at the time, sustained a gunshot wound to the chest at 312 East 103rd Street, within the 23rd Precinct/Police Service Area 5.
Dawkins succumbed to complications from his injuries on April 22, 2023. Following an investigation by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner, the case has now been deemed a homicide.
No arrests have been made in connection with the case, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Dawkins, who was 79 at the time of his death, resided at 184 East 101st Street in Manhattan.
