TRENTON, N.J. — A 19-year-old Trenton man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 17-year-old resident, authorities announced. Keisan Simmons was taken into custody on Monday, September 30, in Morrisville, Pa., by the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force with assistance from the Morrisville Police Department.
Simmons faces charges including first-degree murder, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. He is currently being held at the Bucks County Correctional Facility as the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office moves to detain him pending trial.
The fatal shooting occurred on September 22.
Trenton police responded to a ShotSpotter alert at approximately 12:32 p.m. in the area of Parkside and Homan avenues. Officers found the victim, identified as Opium Leverette, 17, of Trenton, suffering from a gunshot wound to the back. Leverette was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
