WASHINGTON, D.C. — Former President Donald J. Trump has accused Vice President Kamala Harris of staging a photo during her briefing on Hurricane Helene. Trump made the claim in a post on social media on Monday, suggesting the photo, which shows Harris aboard a plane, was “fake and staged.”
“Another FAKE and STAGED photo from someone who has no clue what she is doing,” Trump wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. He pointed out that the phone in the image was not connected to a charging cable, insinuating that the photo was set up. The former president also criticized the Biden administration, referencing U.S. policies on Afghanistan and border security.
The photo shows Kamala Harris on a plane with an iPhone, ‘on a call’ will FEMA officials. She has her headphones in her ears, but they appear to not be plugged into the phone. The papers on her desk appear to be blank.
Harris shared the photo in question on September 29 in a post that stated FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell had briefed her about Hurricane Helene’s impact and the federal government’s ongoing response efforts. Harris emphasized that the administration was continuing to support emergency recovery operations.
The Vice President’s office has not yet responded to Trump’s remarks. The social media exchange is the latest in a series of public criticisms between Trump and members of the Biden administration, particularly as the 2024 election season intensifies.
