NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — A group of New Rochelle police officers participated in a 5K run honoring those who lost their lives in the September 11 attacks, the department announced Monday. The event served as a tribute to the victims and first responders who died during the tragedy at the World Trade Center.
In a statement shared on social media, the department said the officers ran to remember the courage and sacrifice of those who served during the attacks. “Each step was a tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of those who served and those who were lost on that tragic day,” the statement read.
The officers’ run is part of ongoing efforts to ensure that the legacy of the victims and heroes of 9/11 is never forgotten. The police department emphasized the importance of honoring the memories of the fallen through community participation and acts of remembrance.
The department did not provide additional details about the event, but noted the run was symbolic of their ongoing commitment to commemorate the lives lost on September 11, 2001.
The 5K is one of several activities planned in the community to mark the anniversary of the attacks.
