BAY SHORE, N.Y. — A Bay Shore man was convicted Thursday of murdering his ex-fiancée, Amelia Laguerre, in a New Hyde Park parking garage in March 2022, Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced.
Quay Sean Hines, 33, was found guilty of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon after a jury deliberated for less than two hours. The trial, presided over by Judge Robert Bogle, began on September 9, 2024. Hines is scheduled for sentencing on October 29, and faces up to 40 years to life in prison.
Prosecutors said Hines ambushed Laguerre, 33, in the underground parking garage of her workplace at a medical facility on Marcus Avenue. He shot her nine times, fatally wounding her. “This senseless, horrific act cost a young woman her life and denied her eight-year-old son the chance to grow up with his mother’s love and care,” Donnelly said in a statement.
The shooting occurred on March 31, 2022, at approximately 4:08 p.m., as Laguerre was walking to her car. She was pronounced dead at North Shore University Hospital shortly after the attack.
Hines was apprehended on April 8, 2022, in Merrick by Nassau County police officers from the Bureau of Special Operations and Homicide Squad.
