TRENTON, N.J. — The New Jersey judiciary will resume enforcement of penalties for parking ticket violations starting Oct. 1, 2024, after a temporary pause during the COVID-19 pandemic. The move marks a return to pre-pandemic regulations, which had been adjusted due to public health concerns.
Individuals with unpaid parking tickets or those who failed to appear in court will receive notices informing them of their obligations. These notifications will outline options such as contacting the court or making payments through the NJMCdirect system. The notices will also specify that penalties, including possible suspension of driving privileges, will be imposed if no action is taken.
Payment plans will be available for individuals who appear in court and are ordered to pay their tickets. Defendants who do not respond or settle their tickets will face penalties as outlined by state law.
The enforcement of penalties had been on hold during the pandemic to accommodate individuals who were unable to address their violations amid restrictions and health concerns.
