HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A resident of rural Howard County, known only as “Kelly,” found herself in disbelief after checking her $50,000-winning FAST PLAY ticket using the Maryland Lottery app. Despite skepticism from her family, she confirmed her life-changing win on the $10 Mega Multiplier game.
Initially unsure, “Kelly” sought validation from her dad and daughter, both of whom dismissed the ticket as a loser. However, a quick scan with the Lottery app revealed the truth: she had indeed won $50,000. “I’m going to get a new car!” she exclaimed, contemplating a hybrid to replace her decade-old vehicle with over 100,000 miles.
A seasoned lottery player, “Kelly” has previously celebrated wins of $12,000, $7,000, and $3,000 while playing in West Virginia. Her best win in Maryland had been $5,000 before this significant jackpot. “I’m a regular player—Scratch-offs, FAST PLAY, Keno,” she shared.
Her winning ticket was purchased at River Hill Sunoco in Clarksville. With a methodical approach, she begins checking tickets from the bottom, where larger prizes are typically located. “I’m very OCD about how I do my tickets,” she noted.
During her ticket check, she first found a match with the number 45 that revealed $1,000, but it was located in the 50X multiplier row, elevating her win to the second-tier $50,000. “That’s when it snowballed into the ‘no ways!’” she said, as disbelief washed over her.
The Mega Multiplier game has been a hit, starting with 30 top prizes at $100,000. So far, 24 of those tickets have been sold, alongside three second-tier winners like “Kelly.” The game, launched in April 2023, still has numerous prizes available, including 25 at the $20,000 and $10,000 levels.
