HAGERSTOWN, MD — A Hagerstown man, known as “Local Philanthropist,” has won his second major Maryland Lottery prize in two years, claiming a $50,000 top prize on the $5 Joker’s Wild scratch-off.
The retired maintenance worker, who previously won $100,000 on an In the Money scratch-off in September 2023, credits his generosity for his continued Lottery luck. He says he regularly helps neighbors by mowing lawns and providing rides to the grocery store.
The lucky win came after purchasing the Joker’s Wild ticket from Sheetz on Dual Highway in Hagerstown. Scratching the ticket, he revealed 10 prizes of $5,000, matching four winning numbers for a total of $50,000.
The winner plans to use his prize to assist a family member in need, while Sheetz will receive a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize ticket. Joker’s Wild, which launched on July 22, still has four $50,000 top prizes remaining.
