Poughkeepsie, NY – On Wednesday, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a potential violence threat against Dutchess BOCES. The warning was posted on social media and reported to school authorities, who then informed the School Resource Officer, a Sheriff’s Deputy.
Around 9 a.m., multiple Sheriff’s Office personnel arrived at the school to secure the premises and ensure the safety of both students and staff as the threat was investigated. Early findings indicate the post was a re-post of a previously circulated threat that didn’t specifically mention Dutchess BOCES. This re-post had been widely shared in recent weeks.
The investigation, conducted in collaboration with the school district, is ongoing. At this moment, officials do not deem the threat credible. No suspects have been identified, and the school community remains safe.
Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to contact Detective Griffin at 845-486-3809 or via email at jgriffin@dutchessny.gov. The Sheriff’s Office tipline is available at 845-605-CLUE (2583), and all tips are confidential.
