BALTIMORE, Md. — A trip for a snack turned into a $50,000 payday for a South Baltimore man who purchased a winning Money Rush scratch-off ticket at a Royal Farms in Dundalk.
The loyal Maryland Lottery player, a retired ice cream factory manager, visited the Royal Farms store at 7701 German Hill Road last week to satisfy his craving for potato wedges. While enjoying his food at the counter, the urge struck him to buy a few scratch-off tickets.
With a $20 bill in hand, he bought a Ravens X10 ticket and a Money Rush game. After winning $20 on the Ravens X10 ticket, he turned his attention to the Money Rush scratch-off. At first, he didn’t realize what he had uncovered. “I looked at it, but I wasn’t paying full attention,” he recalled. “Then, I thought, ‘What did I just see?’ and I looked at it a second time.”
What he saw was a $50,000 prize on the first line of the game. To confirm the win, he scanned the ticket and the prize was verified. Still in disbelief, he visited another Lottery retailer, where the cashier confirmed his big win, saying, “Whoa, I can’t cash that here.”
The lucky winner, who shared the news with family and friends, plans to use his prize money to pay off bills, purchase a newer vehicle, and bolster his retirement fund.
The Money Rush instant ticket, which launched in July, still has seven $100,000 top prizes and eight $50,000 second-tier prizes remaining.
