CARNEGIE, Pa. — A 37-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a bank robbery that took place Thursday afternoon at a Citizens Bank branch in Carnegie, Allegheny County Police said.
At 1:22 p.m. on Sept. 5, Carnegie Borough Police were dispatched to the Citizens Bank located at 4 West Main Street after receiving reports of a robbery. According to investigators, the suspect, identified as Marcus Sibeto of Carnegie, entered the bank wearing a surgical mask and gloves and made a verbal demand for money from a teller. No weapon was displayed during the incident.
While the robbery was in progress, a second bank teller intervened and managed to recover part of the stolen money from the suspect while he was still inside the bank. The teller then pursued Sibeto on foot, engaging in a struggle with him in the backyard of a nearby home, where additional money was recovered. Despite the confrontation, Sibeto escaped before police arrived.
Multiple local police departments responded to the area, searching for the suspect. Sibeto was eventually located hiding in the 300 block of Logan Street, where he was taken into custody after another brief foot pursuit.
Detectives from the Allegheny County Police General Investigations Unit worked in conjunction with the FBI Violent Crime Task Force and Carnegie Police on the investigation. Sibeto has been charged with robbery by oral or written demand, theft, receiving stolen property, simple assault, resisting arrest, and terroristic threats.
Sibeto was transported to the Allegheny County Jail, where he is awaiting arraignment. The investigation remains ongoing.
