GLEN BURNIE, Md. — Heather Simmons of Glen Burnie won $23,000 at the Maryland Lottery’s Sizzling Summer Cash State Fair event on Aug. 31. Simmons was one of 10 participants selected to compete for cash prizes in the promotion, which took place at the Maryland State Fair.
Participants selected envelopes numbered 1 through 10 to determine their prizes. Five contestants won $2,500 and $200 worth of Ravens scratch-offs, while the remaining five advanced for a chance to enter a cash machine. Simmons drew the winning envelope and entered the machine, grabbing 23 pieces of paper, each representing $1,000.
The four other finalists won half of her total, each taking home $11,500. Simmons plans to use her prize to pay off credit card bills and take a cruise.
The 10 participants were chosen through a My Lottery Rewards promotion, which received over 77,000 entries. Other winners included:

- $2,500 + $200 Ravens scratch-offs: Fred Begosh (Damascus), Arthur Clarke (Woodbine), Andre Taylor (Annapolis), Paul Vitek (Gaithersburg), Sonya Washington (Cheltenham)
The event was part of the Lottery’s ongoing promotions during the summer fair season.
